Highschool Hockey

I went to my real first hockey game. Now I have been to a professional hockey game when I was in highschool. My youth group took a trip to see the LA Kings. However, we were so high up I couldn’t really see what was going on and I was more interested in entertaining my friends, flirting with the ladies, and playing with my new laser pointer (which got me in trouble with Staple’s Center security). So I really consider this my first hockey game. A simple highschool hockey game, and I fell in love with the sport. Here are just some photos that I took…

I learned that hockey is a football game, with soccer goals. Instead of feet, you use sticks, and occasionally it becomes a boxing match. Oh crazy huh? Well guess what. It all happens on ice and it’s not too slipper because they’re shoes are big razor blades.

This sport is ok in my book.

Great shots, and welcome to the sport of hockey!

I’ve been playing for 25 years, coached high school for 5 years, and have photographed a few games over the last two years. You can really gain an appreciation for the speed of them game when you’re trying to track the action through a telephoto lens.

That, and the need for some pretty fast glass.

The reflections and the glass distortions kill me too, I’ll have to figure a creative way to utilize those reflections for sure.

Yeah well I was pretty happy with my first hockey game, it was really hard to track them and anticipate their movements to get some good photographs. Also, I shouldn’t have brought my 300mm lens. Next time I go I’ll have to stick to a 70-200mm.
