Mummers Parade

This year was my first time ever visiting Philadelphia and my very first #Mummers Parade which occurs every New Years day and is considered to be the oldest folk festival in the United States. Working class man spend all year sewing and stitching custom-made costumes and practicing stage performances which are later performed in the streets as part of the parade. Public drinking is allowed, everyone is drunk, everyone. And the drinking starts fairly early sometimes carried over from the night before and continues well into the next morning. This is the Mardi Gras of the East Coast and I’m surprised it’s not more well known. I definitely plan on going again next year.

We missed you this year obviously, but if you’re around next year for the parade give us a shout and we’ll bring fun gear to shoot with if you’re interested!
