Crosses of Gaspé

I made these photos while biking along the the St. Lawrence River towards the Gaspé Peninsula in Ontario, Canada.

As of 2011, there are 5,766,750 people who identify as Catholic. This number is down 2.9% from 2001. In fact, All religious affiliation of any sort is dwindling down world wide. It’s as if globalization has made it easier to communicate, and identify with different people. Maybe realizing that we’re all not that different after all, and maybe what we believe isn’t universal truth.

I digress.

The heavy influence of Catholicism on the culture of Quebec can be seen easily by all the crosses posted on both private and public property.

Here is a small collection I call the “Crosses of Gaspé.”
